Spotify is a free music player, allowing you listen to the music stored on your computer, and on the Spotify's servers.
This piece of software has a neat-looking interface that is well-designed, all Spotify functionalities can be accessed from the left panel of the main window. Playlists are an example of Spotify's functionalities: they allow you to put music in a list and share it. But organizing music in a playlist is not very handy, because you cannot scroll when moving a music.
Featuring more than 20 million of songs in its database, you will probably find most of the music that you want to listen to. The quality of the music depends on your subscription: if you have a free account, then Spotify will let you listen to 128kbps music, which means poor quality. Additionally, some advertisement spots will be played from time to time.
Nevertheless, if you pay for the premium subscription, you will be able to listen to high quality music, up to 320kbps. Moreover, with the premium subscription, you can listen to music when you are not connected to the Internet: when you are online, you can decide to download some titles on your computer, so that they are available in offline mode.
Yet, you will maybe find the premium subscription expensive, if you don't listen to music very often. However, you can activate a 30-day trial in order for you to make up your mind.
The major advantage that I have found while testing this application, is that it can be installed onto mobile devices for free. This allows you to bring your music library with you everywhere, and it does not require you to have a premium account. However, there is also a downside that I consider as big one: Spotify does not have a music widget that would allow you to change music in one click, like most of its alternatives. You will need to open the Spotify Application every time you want to change the music, or see what is currently playing, for all I know.
Briefly, Spotify is a very good online and offline music player, if not the best available. Thanks to its impressively huge music library, you will find most of the songs that you are looking for. Even if you can buy a premium subscription that brings some features like better music quality, it is not mandatory, and some users might find it too expensive.
Great audio recording tool to grab any stream coming through your sound card.
